Wednesday's Child
Yiyun Li
The book Wednesday's Child is about a mother who deals with the death of others. When people die, especially children, it leaves her feeling very sad and confused. The deaths are primarily caused by suicide, and people who are close to her, like her child. She grieves a lot throughout the book and tries to still live a normal life even though it feels impossible. Every year, she gets a strange email from a random man who is way older than her. She feels restless, and every day is a struggle for her. With this, she doesn't know if she should ignore them, block him, or try to find out who he really is. The book is about grieving over losses
and the mystery of these deaths.
I really like the book Wednesday's Child because it is very emotional and dives deep into the mother's feelings about these deaths. Seeing her jot all these deaths down really breaks her down, and it shows how much love a mother has for her child. The mother struggles to deal with the loss of her child, and it shows how hard it is to move on after losing someone you love who is close to you. It shows how much we should cherish our loved ones before we inevitably lose them. I appreciate the sense of mystery and the depth of the story, as it prompts me to consider the profound impact that losing someone can have.
